Judy, Whippet X Staffie, DOB 11.11 – Gatwick, West Sussex

Homing Requirements: Judy needs a real rescue family who are about nurture, loving care and walking beside their new dog to help them build up skills in areas they missed out on. Judy barks when she is feeling out of her depth but soon calms. Judy is gradually losing her nerves with strangers and wearing a strap muzzle has allowed her to become confident off lead in public. Judy can get spooked at night or by the sudden entrance of strangers. She would love to live with another dog. Judy can be left and is housetrained despite long period of kennelling; proven in regular weekend fostering. Judy can live with a cat(s).

Her Story: Judy was found stray and in the very early stages of pregnancy when spayed. Judy has spent over a year in kennels but has regular weekend foster breaks. Judy is neutered, chipped and vax'd. Judy is in kennels near Gatwick, West Sussex.

Advert: Judy arrived with ineptitude and innocence: She has had to grow up in kennels. Judy still gets flustered but soon calms with reassurance and the chance to familiarised and acquaint herself with strangers and new situations. Judy is housetrained, walks well on a lead and will be an off lead dog once she loses her nerves around people which is now much improved. Judy has yet to settle in her own skin - her road has been tough. Judy has good dog skills and enjoys dog's company. Judy can live with cats.

Judy is a 2 year old Whippet X Staffie and yes she can run, run, run! She has a loving nature, is quiet in the home and displays fun and joy as she relaxes and trusts her situation and people. She barks when nervous yet soon settles; Judy hasn't had a chance to settle and integrate her energy and skills ...but it has begun to happen through her regular weekend foster place. Judy is a player and delights in playing. A stunningly beautiful dog who so needs a stable family to flourish in the heart of.

An update from one of our walkers ...

"Had the pleasure of meeting this young lady for the first time today - she is scrummy!

Obviously she's had quite a bit of training as she doesn't pull at all on the lead, sits for a treat and gives paw left and right

met a couple of other dogs out on their Sunday walks and she completely ignored them, had a wander down to the stream to cool off:

An update from one of our volunteers...

"I haven't seen Judy for a while so couldn't help notice how much better she is looking, her time away from kennels has done her the world of good as she has filled out nicely and seems to be much happier. Today she had a long walk with Tia (his dog) and myself, enjoying a few play sessions with Tia in between trying to catch butterflies...

An update from Judy's weekend fosterer:

"Judy has had a great week with us but sadly had to go back to kennels today as half term is over. During her week she's had 3 walks a day, with off lead time during her early morning walk, she loves having a good off lead run. She has spent every afternoon at Leesa's and has been 'as good as gold', quite happy to share space with Leesa's 4 cats she is actually more relaxed with Leesa's cats than with mine as none of Leesa's cats are reactive to her (unlike one of my little madams). She has been out and about around lots of people with no signs of nerves at all, weekend breaks are great but these longer spells really help her build her confidence around strangers.

We've had a couple of accidents in the house when she has been left for longer periods but she settles well and hasn't chewed anything, despite being left for up to four hours in the morning. She has had such a relaxed and settled feel to her all week - compared to a few months ago she has made huge progress in controlling her energy, the only times she got over excited was when I went to collect her from Leesa at night once home from work but that's only to be expected. She has been an absolute pleasure to be around and did amazingly well at Leesa's considering the cats and hamsters.

Some pics from Judy's week.
