Paw Appeal for new volunteers to join us at Animal Lifeline UK

    Hi all,

We are once again asking for new volunteers to help us at Animal Lifeline UK. We were really lucky to have been joined by some fantastic new staff members recently, however our new staff members and helpers are all quite busy behind the scenes helping and really getting into the swing of things now but as we get busier we are finding ourselves more and more stretched and are struggling to do everything we need to.
The need for new helpers has come about as we are getting asked to help with many, many more urgent cases and we just don't seem to have enough hours in the day to be able to help them all.

We were even investigated by the council and officially asked to find rescue placements for dogs in pounds in 3 different council areas, which is great for those dogs as they have a chance of finding themselves with a chance of a new life at the end of their seven day pound stay, but it does place more demands on Animal Lifeline UK and we really do need more help to make sure we can help in all of these cases.

We have tightened up our policies for new rescues to us to make sure that the dogs from these pounds go to rescues that will do everything right (non-destruction policies, homechecks, follow-up checks, vet checks, vaccinations and neutering, etc) and the dogs will not be worse off then they were in the first place. This has been a learning curve and we have had a few hiccups on the way but we think that from now on things will be not only better for the dogs we are finding rescue placements for but the rescues we work along side too.

We really need volunteers to help with the following things. If you think you can help please do email us at [email protected] or reply to this thread.

    1. People who can cross post animals needing homes from rescues who have asked us to cross post their animals onto this forum and then onto Facebook to help rehome more animals and free up much needed space in rescues.

    2. Transport Co-ordinators - people to help co-ordinate transport runs both here on the forum and through The Animal Team - Transport Volunteer Network Facebook page as we work closely along side them to get transport requests sorted.

    3. Home Check Co-ordinators - people to find suitable homecheckers and co-ordinate home checks.

    4. Foster Co-ordinators to get details of anyone interested in fostering and liaise with rescues to find suitable foster placements for animals.

    5. Rehoming Co-ordinators - people who can match up potential adopters to available animals in rescue.

    6. Fundraising Co-ordinators - people to help raise funds for animals in need. This will be mostly for fuel costs and emergency boarding of animals, particularly pound dogs, we are asked to help.

Since July last year we have helped nearly 200 dogs to the safety of their rescue placements from just pound of the pounds we work with and each run has cost us at least £50. Thanks to Jon who did the Wild Wales Challenge to raise sponsor money for us last year we have been able to get many animals to safety but sadly our funds are running low. If anyone can help with this please consider donating to [email protected]

    7. People to help find rescue placements for animals we are asked to help.

    7. Animal Lifeline UK Helpers - helpers will do to do a bit of everything above and be in charge of looking after the forum itself: posting and answering threads, keeping everything updated and tidy on the forum, etc.

Again, if you feel you can help, or know anyone who can, please do get in touch.

Many thanks for taking the time to read this and we do hope you'll consider joining us!

    Best wishes,

The Animal Lifeline UK Team :)
